An evening of winter’s enchantment and engineering excellence awaits at Festivus 2025, a cherished tradition that has shaped the identity of McMaster Civil Engineering for the past ten years. Festivus is not simply an annual celebration. It is the event that sparked the creation of the Civil Engineering Society (CES) itself, bringing students together through a shared desire for community, leadership, and pride in the discipline.
What began as a lighthearted gathering inspired by the Festivus celebration from the television show Seinfeld has grown into one of the most meaningful and anticipated events in our department’s history. The name was proudly adopted by the Civil Engineering Society to reflect both our humour and our commitment to connection, creating a legacy that has continued to grow with every passing year.
On Friday, November 28 at 6:00 p.m., we invite you to join us at The Loft on the fourth floor of the Hub for a night where seasonal charm blends with the precision, creativity, and camaraderie that define our civil engineering community. Guests are encouraged to dress in semi-formal or formal attire, trading steel-toes for heels or replacing the hard hat with a sharp tie, as we gather for an unforgettable evening of celebration. The menu has been thoughtfully curated to be friendly, festive, and accommodating to a wide range of tastes, ensuring that everyone feels welcome at the table. Throughout the night, we will present awards that honour excellence, innovation, leadership, and the collaborative spirit that continues to move our community forward.
Festivus will feature a full dinner service, dessert, a live band, a DJ, and a variety of special moments designed to make the evening both memorable and meaningful. The event is graciously hosted by the McMaster Civil Engineering Society and the McMaster Heavy Construction Student Chapter, two groups united by their passion for excellence, fellowship, and the celebration of civil engineering culture.
