The McMaster Seismic Design Team (MSDT) is an undergraduate team focused on teaching concepts related to earthquake engineering and seismic design through the design of a balsa wood model skyscraper. The team is made up of Construction, Structural, Geotechnical and Architectural sub-teams which work together to teach theory and software from civil engineering classes, including SAP2000, Revit, and geotechnical site classifications. The main goal of the team throughout the year is working towards the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute's (EERI) annual Undergraduate Seismic Design Competition with 45+ international universities to shake the model skyscrapers and give a technical presentation to industry professionals.
At last year's competition MSDT placed 7th overall in addition to winning individual awards for Best Seismic Performance and Spirit of the Competition! We look forward to continue building upon our past successes and see what the upcoming competition season has in store!
